These days, it seems like a new skyscraper rises in New York every minute. There are, in fact six supertowers (buildings over 1,000 feet tall) currently under construction, with another 14 officially proposed. A handful of these are located on Billionaires’ Row, a stretch of West 57th Street known for luxury high-rises, which lines the south side of Central Park. In 2013 the Municipal Art Society of New York published a paper analyzing the effects of such supertowers on the open space in the city, particularly on the sunlight in the park.
