Wuaki.tv, the TV and movie streaming service looking to challenge Netflix and LoveFilm with the option to rent or buy new releases on top of its extensive catalogue of subscription video, has announced that it is now available on Panasonic smart TVs.
The service, which is already available on the web, iOS, Android and through Xbox Live, can now be downloaded to 2013 and 2013 Smart Viera TVs. The app itself is free, but streaming subscriptions start from £4.99 and individual movie rentals from £2.49 each.
With over 70% of users in Wuaki.tv's Spanish home territory watching on-demand TV and movies through a smart TV, and the UK close behind, the company hopes that its combined rental and streaming service can tempt customers away from their Netflix or LoveFilm subscription.
"For Wuaki.tv, traffic from [Smart TVs in the living room] is far outstripping tablets and laptops," Jacinto Roca, Wuaki.tv's CEO, said of the announcement. "We see a strong trend of people being fully comfortable watching TV on-demand in place of traditional scheduled TV."
Wuaki has also pledged to bring the service to Smart TV platforms from other brands in the future, so those that don't own a Panasonic TV won't be left out for long.
